Braless

Did you get a chance to read our recent report on bras and breast cancer? If not, you may want to take a few minutes and do so. In this article,  ThermApproach explores six benefits of going braless. Before you get overly concerned about the social acceptability of doing so, read through the information, and decide where you can make changes when it comes to going braless.

As a woman, you’ve been taught all your life that wearing a bra is proper. It keeps you looking attractive, put together, and that it’s just more appropriate.

The pro-bra message has been preached to women worldwide for hundreds of years, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that it’s a symbol of femininity and beauty.  It takes just one look in clothing stores or magazines that specialize in lingerie to see how attractive bras can be, which in turn, makes you, the consumer feel pretty.

You may be surprised to find out that there are some unexpected benefits to dropping the bra every now and again, or – if it works for you – for good! Here are six benefits of going braless and ways your health, life and your breasts can improve by saying toodles to the bra.

Get a Better Night’s Sleep
Many women still sleep with their bra on, however scientist don’t approve of that. As we noted in the bras and breast cancer article, wearing them too long increases the risk of breast cancer. That being said, wearing a bra to bed is more likely to cause discomfort and disturb your sleep cycle.  As a matter of fact, research has shown that any undergarment might still impact your circadian rhythm.

Boost Your Circulation
As noted in the above study; close fitting clothing affects the body's circulation. All the tightness and squeezing around your chest can slow your circulation by compressing the major blood vessels. This has been proven to create cardiovascular issues down the road, so the question is, is your favorite push-up bra really worth it?

Improve Their Shape
Contrary to public opinion, not wearing a bra does not cause your breasts to sag. In fact, according to a long-running French study, bras most likely have the opposite effect, causing the girls to lose their shape over time. According to the study, the ‘support’ of bras weakens the muscles in the chest, making them droop. This follows the logic of keeping other muscles in your body strong. For instance, if you needed to have your arm in a sling for any length of time, you lose muscle and strength in your bicep and triceps.  Same applies to the breast.

Improve Your Breast Health
At ThermApproach, your breast health is our number one priority. Not only in making sure you have a yearly screening; but in relationship to going braless, there are other ways to promote good breast health. As noted, your blood flow will improve; sweat and dirt are no longer trapped against your skin, decreasing the chances of infections, rashes, and acne in your chest area. An ill-fitting bra, or one with painful underwires can also cause shortness of breath, chest pains and all sorts of discomfort. When buying a bra, please make sure you purchase one that is fitted properly, so that when you do wear one, it’s not increasing the likelihood of unhealthy breasts.

Comfort
Be honest ladies, is there anything that feels better than whipping that bra off at the end of the day? I bet you’ve even perfected the ability to remove it without taking off your top. This is more than likely the case if you wear one that is lacy, itchy or tight. The discomfort can be enough to distract you all day long.

You’ll Wonder What Took So Long
As soon as you get into the swing of things – pun completely intended – you may wonder, why did I wait so long? Bras do have their place in life, but you don’t ‘have to’ wear one every waking hour of the day. In relationship to that, if you are a mom with daughters, wait.  You don’t have to rush them to the nearest store for a training bra if you don’t want to.

What do you think? Do these health benefits tempt you enough to consider ditching your bra?
